Strangers and Pilgrims

Peter often mentions things like the "inheritance" (1:4) reserved in heaven for us, which show that he had his eyes fixed "above".
It's also interesting how he views earth as well:

1 Peter 1:17 "...pass the time of your sojourning here in fear..."
1 Peter 2:11 "..I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts..."

He didn't think of earth as his home, and urges us not to either. He had a real longing for heaven and his Savior, and a disdain for this world and the tethers that bind us to it. Good example of how to view heaven and earth.

"Acceptable to God"

It’s cause for great rejoicing and thanksgiving-that God in His mercy and by His grace, would take us, who were subjects of the “power of darkness” (Colossians 1:13) , “alienated” “enemies” full of “wicked works”(Colossians 1:21), wholly “dead” in our sins (Colossians 2:13) and not only redeem us with “the precious blood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:19), but bestow a “priesthood” upon us (1 Peter 2:5), and ordain us to offer sacrifices “acceptable to God” through the merits of “His Dear Son” the Lord Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:13). In addition to this unmerited favor, He also has bequeathed unto us “an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:4).

The more I think on these things, the more I am overwhelmed with the magnitude of my own sin, but even more so with His great mercy.
