Strangers and Pilgrims

Peter often mentions things like the "inheritance" (1:4) reserved in heaven for us, which show that he had his eyes fixed "above".
It's also interesting how he views earth as well:

1 Peter 1:17 "...pass the time of your sojourning here in fear..."
1 Peter 2:11 "..I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts..."

He didn't think of earth as his home, and urges us not to either. He had a real longing for heaven and his Savior, and a disdain for this world and the tethers that bind us to it. Good example of how to view heaven and earth.
