It’s
cause for great rejoicing and thanksgiving-that God in His mercy and by His
grace, would take us, who were subjects of the “power of darkness” (Colossians 1:13) ,
“alienated” “enemies” full of “wicked works”(Colossians 1:21), wholly “dead” in our sins
(Colossians 2:13) and not only redeem us with “the precious blood of Christ” (1 Peter
1:19), but bestow a “priesthood” upon us (1 Peter 2:5), and ordain us to offer
sacrifices “acceptable to God” through the merits of “His Dear Son” the Lord
Jesus Christ (Colossians 1:13). In addition to this unmerited favor, He also has
bequeathed unto us “an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, that fadeth
not away, reserved in heaven for you” (1 Peter 1:4).
The more I think on these things, the more I am overwhelmed with the magnitude
of my own sin, but even more so with His great mercy.
